Windsurfing Harness
A windsurfing harness is used to relieve pressure from the windsurfer’s arms. When the rider catches enough wind to propel themselves they have to use their weight to counteract the pressure the wind pushes into the sail to remain balanced on the board. Arms are great for holding up the body and allow for many complex maneuvers but can tire quickly, especially in high winds.
A windsurfing harness allows the rider to use less force on their arms. They connect to the boom and go around the riders back before reattaching to the boom. It is basically a sling with a connection on each end. Most are adjustable and some are easily adjustable while riding. They are light and waterproof and most will float as well.
A windsurfing harness greatly increases the endurance of the windsurfer. Without one a rider’s arms would quickly get tired which can potentially strand a surfer out in the water. Most riders do not wear flotation devices because they impair movement which can also become dangerous especially in rough water. They come in lower back and seat harness versions.
