One of the most important of all windsurfing tips is to remain relaxed. Tension is not the friend of the windsurfer as it needlessly wastes energy. A firm but soft grip on the boom is one of the best ways to windsurf but legs and torso should not be tensioned either. The hips and shoulders are the key body parts used for windsurfing but the shoulders should always be outboard of the hips.
Another obvious but often overlooked windsurfing tip is to stand up. Crouching down even in high winds only wears the rider out quicker and makes them less mobile and responsive to changing conditions. It is much easier to handle the rig while standing but many beginners revert to a crouched position when nervous. Extending the arms is another major tip that should be followed. Not only will they have more room to maneuver but there is a better view of the water too.
Other windsurfing tips can be learned from qualified instructors as well as from avid windsurfers. Many people are interested in seeing their sport promoted and become more popular and are more than willing to provide free tips and instructions.
